White Pear

Apodytes dimidiata, commonly known as the “white pear” is a stunning, evergreen tree that thrives in the Western Cape’s coastal and semi-coastal environments. 

With its smooth, dark green leaves and attractive, dense canopy, this tree provides excellent shade and can grow up to 10 meters tall.

In spring, it produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers, followed by edible fruits that attract birds. Apodytes dimidiata is relatively wind-resistant, making it a great choice for coastal gardens, and its robust nature allows it to handle dry, well-drained soils.

While it is not frost-tolerant, it can withstand light frost in more sheltered spots. Its dense foliage also makes it ideal for use as a screening tree or a natural hedge, offering privacy and beauty throughout the year.
