Sweet Gum

A magnificent deciduous tree, Liquidambar styraciflua is prized for its spectacular autumn colors, ranging from deep red to bright orange and yellow.

It has a neat, pyramidal shape when young, maturing into a broader, rounded canopy with distinctive star-shaped leaves.

This tree thrives in well-drained soil and enjoys full sun, making it a beautiful shade tree. 

It is moderately wind-resistant but is not ideal for coastal conditions due to salt sensitivity.

Liquidambar is frost-tolerant and not typically used for screening, but its dense canopy provides some privacy. Though it produces small, inconspicuous flowers, its real charm is in its foliage and striking bark.
