Bismarckia nobilis, commonly known as the Bismarck Palm, is a striking, evergreen palm native to Madagascar, celebrated for its impressive stature and distinctive silver-blue, fan-shaped leaves.

Typically reaching heights of 40 to 70 feet (12 to 21 meters) with a spread of 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.5 meters), it serves as a dramatic focal point in any landscape.

This palm thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, exhibiting high drought tolerance once established. While it can withstand mild frost, tolerating temperatures down to the low 20s°F (around -6°C), it is not as resistant to windstorm damage as some other palm species.

Its moderate salt tolerance allows it to handle coastal conditions, though protection from strong winds is advisable to prevent potential damage to its large fronds.

Due to its substantial size and solitary growth habit, the Bismarck Palm is not suitable for screening purposes but makes a magnificent specimen tree, adding a touch of grandeur to gardens in the Western Cape.
